Aughrim is situated in a very scenic area near where the Ow and Derry Rivers meet surrounded by woodland hills in South County Wicklow. It has won the tidiest town in County Wicklow award from 1996-2005. In this charming neat village, there are a number of unusual granite terraced houses throughout the village.
A plaque on the bridge commemorates Anne Devlin, who was employed by and supported Robert Emmet, a rebel who was hanged in 1803 for his leadership of an aborted revolution. Aughrim is an important agricultural, horticultural and timber processing village. Aughrim has become a popular tourist venue for walkers.
Aughrim have won the title of “The tidiest small town in Ireland” in 2006 as well as holding the county title for the last 11 years. Aughrim have also recieved a gold award in the international “Entente-Florale”competition which is coveted by every town in Europe. 2007 will see even further advancement in “Beautiful”awards.
